Coed

To whomever asked about coed rooms in hospitals here in Canada. Yes the wards have men and women in them. Everyone is sick so the only danger is spreading infection if that is what they have.

Free patterns here.

I will be out for dinner tonight so maybe this blog will be unfinished..... Maybe.

But here it is so far.  I had another test today and that is all over now. My next appointment with the doctor is the 30th of September.   So tests over we had a visit with Bob and Buzz. Bob had a bad night last night  ,reaction to morphine. He and Ray seem to be alike in that way. Ray gets very sick from pain killers and apparently so does Bob. But he seemed to be good this afternoon. I hope he stays that way.
Buzz said he had a long scar across his
abdomen. I suggested that I take a photo and put it on the blog LOL. It was not approved so you will just have to visualize it if you are interested .

Then we went up to our little mall to get some money from the ATM. We went to the library and I took out 3 books, it has been a while since I was there.  If Ray wasn't so impatient I would have spent more time there. We went back to the mall , Marg was there with Sharon.
She had to pick up some food for her cat   Chrissie.  So we took her home, otherwise   she would  have to carry it and walk home.

Ideas for quilts on this sites.
Like this one. This is grand!

Rick just called and he is back home in Calgary , shopping for gas and groceries. I hope he stays still for a while, at least as long as his health allows him to rest up. Then he may be on the road again but if so here rather than there.  He was interviewed by the CBC while he was in thunder. He had written about the lack of hotel rooms and specifically handicapped rooms. He sure gets around in more ways than one.

Tonight I am going out for dinner with the Pot Luck group so I will get back on the blog when I return .

No pattern but I love these wonderful faces. Make up your own. LOL.

Ah sweet Rose with a Tim Horton's sprinkle doughnut.

Haha.....the reaction !

And Sweet Charlotte's sprinkle doughnut. She looks as if she is saying thanks. I love these adorable photos.

Half square triangles once again- such a useful block.
A small quilt for any number of uses and an almost guaranteed success with this one.
You know I think I have written a complete blog so won't have to come back tonight.
Have a great evening folks.
Good evening.

Big storm here

Big thunder and lightening storm here tonight. Rain as well. It is a night for fun. Well I like storms and that is fun for me.

I went for my MIBI today. We got up at 6:00 AM needed to be at the hospital for 7:45.  A MIBI is a test of the heart.  First you go into once section of the unit to be fitted with an IV that will be used to administer a drug called Persantum which is dedicated to increasing your heat rate. It takes them a long time to find a vein thaat they can use . Several pokes later I was ready to go into the other room for the test.  There I was hooked up to a blood pressure machine on the other side. Now both arms were in use.
Then the drug went in and the heart rate went up, and up until i was in major pain in my chest. Then it was over for that part and I had to go into the tube for a set of pictures.

Done and all the tubes removed we went to visit Bob who had his gall bladder removed  yesterday. He was not too bad, alert,  but hooked up to a morphine drip . There was a woman in his room who cried and complained non stop. This happened to me too when I was in the hospital, these poor souls are on the regular wards because there is no room for people with dementia anywhere else. Bob will be in there for over a week as he had to have a full surgery due to infection in the gall bladder.

Tomorrow I have to go back to the hospital for another set of pictures in the tube while the heart is at rest. then it will be over . What the reading is I have no idea.

Marg came over in the afternoon to bring dinner,  pasta and sauce ,so we did not have to cook. Thanks Marg and Michael.

On to other things, not my life LOL.

Wednesday offerings

Download now as a pdf pattern
Or, download the block installer

Goslings is the name of this block. LOL.

Recipe for apple pie haha.
ingredients:
5-6 Granny Smith apples (make sure they can stand on their own)
1 tbsp. cinnamon
1/4 cup sugar
1 tbsp. brown sugar
pie crust (homemade or pre-made)

Directions:
1) Preheat oven to 375F.

2) Cut off the top of 4 apples off and discard. Remove the inside of each apple with a spoon or melon baller very carefully, as to not puncture the peel.

If you’re a skilled interior apple excavator, salvage as much as you can so you can use it for Step 2. I, on the other hand, am not skilled so I just had to throw my interior apples away and chop up additional apples for filling.

3) Remove skin from remaining apple(s) and slice very thinly. These apple pieces will give you the additional filling needed to fill the four apples you are baking.

Mix sliced apples with sugars and cinnamon in a bowl. If you prefer more or less cinnamon make adjustments as desired. Same goes for the sugar.

Scoop sliced apples into hollow apples.

4) Roll out pie crust and slice into 1/4 inch strips. You can also add a strip of pastry inside the top of the apple almost like a liner to add a little more texture/sweetness to the pie.

Cover the top of the apple in a lattice pattern with pie crust strips.

5) Place apples in an 8×8 pan. Add just enough water to the cover the bottom of the pan.

It takes up space but I have no idea of how to make it

clickable . Apparently no one else does either since this isn't

the first time I have mentioned my handicap LOL.

Today is Marg's birthday .Happy Birthday Dear Sister.

I hope your day was wonderful and we will take up on

Saturday .

I had to go to the cardiologist today , he is sending me for

MIBI tomorrow . I went for one last year and it hurt like

H...  However I will prevail and suffer if not in silence then

suffer anyway.

I have to go again on  Friday  so my week will be taken up

with that.

That and another trip to the pharmacy for more medication
for my heart. Actually it is no the heart but the arteries. My
heart is amazingly wonderful, a great pump LOL>

After waiting for the prescription which I forgot to take half

hour before I ate we came home.

Ray cooked up some eggs early in the day so I shelled

them , chopped them, added a bit of tabasco sauce, mayo

and mustard and made devilled eggs for

sandwiches. Then because it tasted so good we had

sandwiches for dinner.

With pickles.

And that was the full course of our day, nothing more , no

less.

And from the looks of things it will be Sunday before I can

sew. Who would think that retirement could be so busy

Haha.

So tonight it will TV and that is all.

Catherine our great granddaughter in Quebec on her way to school. I think she didn't want to get her  lunch kit wet. Apparently it has been a dreadful summer in Val D'Or and it looks it.  Ray and I sent her a parcel last week with English books in it for Grandma Lynn to read to her.

Ah another old Singer, hand crank surrounded by a ton of buttons and as a landing for threads.

It is almost fall. just wait for the winds to come.

Just look at this dusty old thing.
In reality it is a rusty old thing but this photo brings up a very old memory for me. When we moved into our home in 1942 there was a stove like this in the kitchen. Mom did not like it and it did not last long in our house.

Cheerful Chairs invite sitting down.

Time to go folks.

Have a great evening
Good night.

just quilts

Today I'll show some quilts I have gathered up. No instructions just good looking.

Many blue triangles.

Many hexagons went into this quilt

And look at the gorgeous feathers in the quilting. Fabulous work!

A quilt of many colours.

A marvelous   Boston Album quilt, can't even imagine doing all that work.

i
This Hallowe'en corn candy afghan is knitted but I added it because it is almost topical.

You can find this neat pattern in Quiltmaker magazine.

http://www.minneapolismqg.com/2013/08/saturday-series-quilting-away-from-home_31.html

This is way off topic but it moved me very much when it showed up on my screen. I have been to the Vietnam Memorial several times. It always makes me cry to see the way each soldier is named and remembered along the length of the memorial. I remember the controversy this sculpture caused when it was built. It seems unreal to me now how all that came about.

 This old soldier survived.

Whoops a day or two late but I love these old looking pictures She is so sweet sewing up her little quilt. I would love to engage a child in learning how to sew.
But The child must want to do so  , what the adults wants is of no concern.

Take the time at the end of  yesterday's blog  to look at Meaghan's comment. I love it.
Charlotte is such a great kid.

If this one doesn't make you smile you have a problem. I love this dog and the boy's confidence. Oh I know this is some adult's thought but it is still funny.
Do you enjoy antiques, this pitcher is named on the  Dusty Old Thing page that comes up on Facebook every day. It is an interesting page.

As for us today, another appointment with the doctor and a visit to the X Ray department of the clinic. I am having trouble with my innards and it needed to be looked at. Hopefully it is just a blip on the page.

We had to go for bread and that was it. We did not do anything else. I came home to work on my blog and picture collection.

Tomorrow is Marg's birthday, she is very busy with her friends taking her for birthday lunches and we are taking her out on Thursday. She wants to go to the Starlight. So that is what we will do.
Richard out an update on his condition on his blog today. So if you are following  his blog  h you will find out how he is . I know some of you are interested. Thanks to you all for following his blog.

Our great granddaughter Catherine took her first solo bus ride to school today. She was very excited.

That's it for tonight folks.
I hope you enjoy the quilt show.
Good night.

A wonderful day

We had a wonderful day . Meaghan, Lewis, Mary and Albert came for a visit with the little girls Rose and Charlotte. It was fabulous. We had fish and chips for lunch and then the girls played. They were so much fun. They ran around, asked for uppies, ate cookies and crackers, played with dolls, pretended to sleep on the floor, used my quilts for their sleepovers. Oh my I had such a wonderful time and it appeared that girls did too. And here come the pictures LOL.
Charlotte the ballerina.

Charlotte and my Minnie Mouse doll that I bought in DIsneyland decades ago. She was taking a nap with the doll but she did not
sleep. It looks so cute. Charlotte took the doll home. I hope she loves it.
Rose with a handful of My Little Ponies which belong to Charlotte.
An invitation to dance. Is Charlotte listening to some inner music?
Let me be first haha.

Oh boy Grandma Nan  quackers  LOL.

At rest in my doll's rocking chair. It seems to be just the right size for my little girls.
And aren't their dresses beautiful. They love to dress up.

Time to move on.

This block is the favourite of my friend Gail in Arizona.  We call it the Friendship block but as many such blocks it has more than one name.

http://vintageembellishments.com/

Another of these lovely patchwork hexagons blocks. Click on the Vintage tutorial up above the picture , there is a lot of other hexagons on this site. So pretty.

I love this tutorial for Herringbone blocks and eventually a table runner.

Nice!

And now the cleaning lady Lynn is here. I was surprised as it is Labour Day but then this is not a union shop.  We need her today to clean up the cracker crumbs.

Now what to say, it is all finished for the day. We are not doing anything and not going out.
Pictures that is what I'll do now.

An older Singer , I like the looks of this one. Actually I do not know what age this one is, it could be newer than I thought.

A companion  in the rescue squad. This is very beautiful as it shows the emotion of the man .
Time to go despite the fact that it is just 3:12.

Have a lovely rest of the day and evening.

more oldies

http://www.freequiltpatterns.info/free-tutorial---dresden-plate-trivets-by-amy.htm

This is such a beautiful arrangement of colour choices.

Late again , this time because I had cramps. Since when does an 81 year old woman get cramps. Anyway I have been lying down in bed. But Ray called me to get up, it won't be long though I still feel badly. It seems to me things have not been going too well for me this past week. Yesterday was fine but I am back to feeling badly again.
So forgive me for being late tonight.
Of course we did not go out today but I did do some quilting. The one piece of fabric I wanted  to use was too small but I did not want to  abut them so I added a strip to separate the two pieces. It looks good but that is all I got done . The ironing board had to be put away as the little ones are coming tomorrow to visit and I don't want them to trip on it. Ray put it away and  the iron too.
So it is safer for Rose and Charlotte. I am looking forward to seeing them and my girls as well.

So in the meantime when not sewing two long strips  I lay down and read my e reader. It is so easy and I have not been to the library since I got that reader. I think it is time to go though for some books that I can't get on the reader and get for free. That is the good thing about the library ,FREE.
I did manage to cook dinner though. We had chicken drumsticks browned, added to a casserole dish covered in mushroom soup and baked with rice. I think I didn't cook it long enough. The chicken was great but the rice was a bit crispy. I'll warm it up tomorrow night , that will cook it right LOL.

Hmm  does this apply to you, it does to many of us. Although I have bought so little this year that it does not apply to me. And I am using what I have for the most part. Once in a while I buy a small piece of fabric for something special. I do have to admit to a liking for Halloween fabrics though.

This is so sweet, I really like it. Don't know it that is what the dog thinks but it seems real. I want it to be real.

Anita's dogs, she is related to my sons through their dad's side of the family. The dogs are lovely.

A tiny owl in a tiny hat sitting in a hand. I wonder if it is a saw whet. They are so cute. I had a friend once who had a saw-whet so I have held one. It was a joy.

Don't you think this is a great idea for using your old sewing machine if you  want to use it for something other than sewing LOL.

Sweet Rose , can't wait to see her tomorrow.

And that is the end folks. I am still very tired.
Have a good evening.
