star pattern

http://www.freequiltpatterns.info/free-tutorial---star-block-by-sarah-of-anyone-can-quilt.htm

Pretty in pink, this is a lovely pattern of a star design.  It uses a variety of pink fabrics to make this block.

Today was a slow day for me. Ray and I went and picked up the new grey pants I ordered.   We were at the Crossings which is a mall on two sides of the highway. We had to go to the left side when heading east. Nygard's is on that side and they have nice clothing. I found a lovely pair of grey pants but that was all I could find. Strange! Maybe another day. The clerk said new stuff was coming in next week.
We then went across the road to the right side and stopped at Tim's for coffee. We each had a coffee and shared a doughnut, a maple cream.   Soooo good.

Nothing exciting happened today. We came home and I had a nap. See I said it was not exciting!

I made macaroni and tomatoes for dinner. That is a depression dinner but we love it. I remember times when that was all we had for supper. I served it to my own kids too. It is still going on for us.

Olympics began today. I was still in bed when it began so missed the opening ceremonies.  Oh well I am sure it will be shown again. Many times!

I did not get back to my embroidery today. Saturday too is not always a good day for me to sew. But Sunday generally works.

My precious Charlotte. Her mom says mornings are not her best time of day. I totally get that. I too am not good about mornings. My dad used to get really ticked with me as all the rest of the family were morning people. I was the lone one out.

Frustration is over with full bobbins.  I use prewounds for my embroidery machine. But if sewing I fill up a few bobbins  before I start so I won't be frustrated. However if one runs out I am very annoyed LOL.

Two cats. One outside. One inside. I hope it isn't too cold out there. The inside cat does not care about the outside cat.  Lesson :  There is no friend like a cold friend.

This is a good idea.  Place a small block inside a cardboard frame. Looks nice doesn't it.

And LOVE again, this one is very pretty. There will be a lot of these showing up until the 14th.

Oh my I went off the blog and forgot about it. So this is the closing for tonight.
Have a great evening.
Good night.

RIP Donna

My dear old friend Donna Desrocher passed away last night after suffering for several years with Dementia. She knew nobody  for some time and though I have not seen her for a few years , she lives in Victoria, I think of her often. The last time I saw her she did not know me. Donna was a very talented, creative, intelligent and entertaining woman. We met when we were in our twenties and both had a family of young children. We hit it off right away and continued our friendship throughout the decades . We shared our good times and our bad times as great friends do. Our children hit it off and had wonderful time together when they were young. I know she was not with us for the past years due to the dementia but I thought of her as here. I loved her for a lifetime.
Dear Donna RIP . We'll meet again.

I had a great productive day today although I was waiting for the cleaning lady who did not come today. Ray went out because he does not like to be here when she is working in the apartment.
I took advantage of the day to do some embroidery. Everything worked. The computer was able to get the designs to my stick, I had good advice from my friend Catherine in Delaware .
The printer also worked. I like to run off the colour sheet to help me know where to go next and  which colour to use even though I don't always use the choices offered. But it is a guideline to the design.
I enjoyed doing my embroidery today but it was a sample piece to see if  it all worked. I made the piece on a cloth and not on the towel that I plan to do.
Here is the piece I did.
The Happy Snowman. If anyone wants him I am willing to give him away.  Just send me your address and he will be on the way.  I can pink the edges of the fabric to prevent fraying.

February love quilt. Check out all the heart varieties that you can use in a quilt  of your own.

What a honey. I love his face and the colour of his fur. I could take him home if Ray would go for it LOL. It is too much work to have a dog in an apartment . Especially having to take him outside in all kinds of weather. Neither of us are up for that.

Hexie potholder, not a good picture but you can get the idea.

And a pretty little quilt.

This is the end for tonight.

I hope you all have a great evening.

Good night.

Foxy Loxy

http://bit.ly/1fYGnyQ

I continue to struggle with my embroidery machine and its sticks. I think I need to format my stick in the machine but have tried ti and nothing is working. Also I was under the impression the stick needed to be formatted in the computer but Tom says no.
If Mary comes over in the near future  I'll ask her for help or maybe Meaghan knows what to do. I am very frustrated with it all.

Kathy took me to the movie today. We saw 12 Years a Slave. It was very thought provoking and beautifully done. This story was of a black man who was free but was captured in Washington and sold into slavery down south in Louisiana.Of course there was the usual cruelty towards the slaves. But  the story itself was more than that, it was of a man who tried to get out of  slavery and find his way back to his free life up north and to find his family again. In between freedom and freedom is the story of slavery and cruelty, love and hate, wealth and poverty, and a bit part with Brad Pitt who is pivotal in getting the man back to his old life and to his family. Pitt took his story to friends in the North precipitating his release, where he began working for abolition successfully.  I liked the movie, it was absorbing, the filming was beautiful and worth watching fir that alone. I was very interested because of the bayous , the live oaks and the Spanish moss that I had seen when I was in Louisiana.  I love films of places that I recognize.  I would watch it again if Ray wanted to go. He said maybe.
Solomon before the abduction being wooed and set up with wine.

That was my day   except for when I came home and made deviled eggs for sandwiches. I added some shrimp to the mix and it tasted great. Then I made the sandwich for me. Ray did not want anything at that time.
Naughty kitty. I thought the cats
just lay around and napped when his mom was at work. Guess not.

Sent to the dog house,  this one is funny .

 Hmm that would be me.

Nice little coasters to save your tables from water marks.

Western style quilt. Boots and saddles LOL.

So that is all for tonight folks.
Have a great evening.
It is cold here and that is unusual.

Good night.

pretty little girl's skirts

http://bit.ly/1fYGhae
What pretty little skirts, a bit of rick rack , some applique and elastic.

Butterfly Parade is the name of this block.  Pretty busy isn't it? Or is it just pretty?

Today was my sewing day.Pat and I went for coffee at Starbucks , then off to our sewing groups. I was not feeling well and had to rest on the sofa for a while. But I did applique a heart. And took a couple of photos.
Diane worked for a long time making a whole envelope of hexagon flowers They are so interesting because she fussy cut them both the centres and the outer edges of the flowers. They are so good to look at.  We have spent many an hour just looking at the choices. Great job Diane.

Betty's blue and white quilt with the lovely quilting of long armer Lauren. It is gorgeous. Both Betty and Lauren do fabulous work. They make a great pair.

This was also Diane's work her first finished piece, hexagons again.

It was a good day. Pat brought me back home again.

Betty, Pat and I all worked on hearts. Here are some of mine.

The one at the front is the one I am working on right now.  See the pins.  There are 22 of them today. I think I might start putting them into a quilt soon, a small one as there are not that many hearts I can use.

Remember this. I recall one of these phones on my cousin's farm in Alberta. There were at least 5 party lines that I can remember. I was a bad girl and loved to listen in on the party line. The operator used to tell us to get off the line. LOL.See the bells on the top , that is the ringer. Wonderful piece of antiquity isn't it?

I just found a bag of small hexagon pieces to make two hexagon flowers. Tomorrow night I will start to sew them and hopefully cut out a couple more sets.

Sharon Schamber won Best of Show for this quilt at Houston. She won Best of Show when I was in Houston in 2010.  She does amazing work. Look at this quilt and think of how much work went into it.

Well that's all folks. I have been reading some more about ALS and Stephen Hawking.

I am ready to go to bed.
Have a great evening.
Good night.

violets

February is violets.

Celebrate every month you have.

Lisa and Adam called this morning to see if we are available to celebrate Adam's birthday and mine on the 18th of March. They will be coming up here. Adam is 60 March 6th. Isn't it something when your child is 60.  Still my baby!
We will be going over to Victoria and to the Empress Hotel. I'll take pictures LOL. Of course I will.

 http://www.quiltandsewshop.com/category/s?keyword=100+blocks+volume+6

Many items of hearts and love this month. Use your heart fabrics for this block. I have a collection of them. As you know I love hearts. Hmm I think I said that yesterday.

I have a new member. Welcome Connie and thanks for joining us.
It was a nice day for us today. Our first stop was lunch at ABC, grilled cheese sandwich for me and BLT for Ray. Then we stopped off at Brentwood and walked around for a bit of exercise. It was a marvelous day, the sun was out and the mountains were standing clear against the backdrop of the sky. It was one of my favourite kind of days. Only God can create such beauty and I am grateful for it. We live in such a wonderful world.

Bottom to top, park, city, mountain and sky.

This from my friend Jamie and I thought it might be of interest to you all. Mighty useful I say.

I am so frustrated with my embroidery machine. I tried to embroidery today. The machine and the stick would not cooperate with each other and I could get nowhere with either one of them. I will have to go to Tom's. But tomorrow is not a good day, Tuesday applique, Wednesday movie so it will have to be Thursday.

Monkey Wrench of Churn Dash are two of the names for this block. It looks simple and with the band around the block it is elegant. Makes for a nice quilt.

Master Slave dichotomy, big small dichotomy. I love it!

Wow I wish I had this amount of energy.

I can relate to this.

This cat amused me. Or could it be supper bowl LOL.

Lots of leaves looks like Fall all over the place. I like it a bit more ordered than this quilt.

Time is up folks. I have no more to say tonight.
Have a great evening.

Good night.

BOM

http://thequiltedsnail.com/bom2013-14.html

BOMs for December, January and February.

Valentine's Table Runner
  http://dogwoodlanerambles.blogspot.ca/2014/01/valentine-table-runner.html

Instructions above in the site shown. It takes a bit of finding but if I can find them so can you LOL.  I love this block. 2 inch squares ladies. And gents if there are any.

I wasted my day today , got nothing done. First I wanted to do some embroidery but first needed to transfer to the other computer to print out the colour sheet. Well the transfer would not work . It used to but not now and the design was not that big. So I fiddled around with that for a while. When I put the stick into the embroidery machine the design did not come up. Oh my how depressing. I will take my machine and stick to Tom. He told me that it would format in the machine and I would not need to format in the computer. Oh well whatever I'll try it again tomorrow.  Maybe.
So I gave up......... for today.

I did do a bit of laundry and those machines worked just fine LOL. Wouldn't you know it.

I spent the rest of the day on my computer looking for items to put up on my blog.  That worked okay but is time consuming. I have to make sure it will work on my blog.

Today is the big football  game. We are watching of course. I called Rick and he said he had 15 friends there for the game. I can imagine the noise in his apartment.  Rick has a loud voice and  I am sure his friends will compete. However we are happy about Seattle's game. Seattle is like a sister city to us Vancouverites.

We just don't have the food!

Groundhog day February 2. Is winter close to the end? I am sure many hope that is so.

We did go out for a bit up to our little local mall. We did a tiny bit of shopping and I bought some pastrami for a sandwich on rye bread. I love that.

Sad news about Phillip Seymour Hoffman demise today. He was a great actor. RIP Seymour.

Chinese New Year started today . It is the Year of the Horse. Big celebrations down in Chinatown.

Hexagons once again. Lots of lovely ones these days.

Another of the series of Hexagons, lovely red and white with embroidery in the centre hexagon.

This one is so nice, the dragonfly situated in the centre of each hexagon is beautiful.

Aah this one is is lovely but then I do like hearts a lot.

A bit of advice  , save your spare triangles , you never know when you might need some in a scrappy quilt. These are very pretty but I don't know where you could get these. I guess  You can cut some from your stash. Of course you can.
Seattle won , a huge win for them. Congratulations Seattle.

Here we have a lovely blue and white block.

And we have an adorable picture here if a little girl doing her household duty -sewing! Good for her.

That is it folks.
Have a lovely evening.

Good night.

Saturday is orange

Folks My computer is behaving badly and my eyes are not behaving either.  So there wil be no blog tonight unless somehow I can get both to work. Sorry.

 http://blog.patsloan.com/2014/02/pat-sloan-aurifil-february-block-of-the-month.html

Such a pretty basket block by Pat Sloan.
The orange is so refreshing to look at. It makes me think of the orange crush I drank as a child. So that is what I would call this block Orange Crush.
