cats in a race

http://www.quiltmaker.com/blogs/quiltypleasures/2014/08/back-to-school-hip-hopscotch-quilt/

Back to School is not happening here in B.C. as teachers are all out on strike. However you may be able to complete this quilt while they are out. It looks like fun.

Come on kitties ,let's get a move on.  This one so amuses me. Those cats have no intention of moving.

Life can be joyous if you take advantage of the breaks.

Cute little stove ,my mom had a big one like this except for the stick down the middle.

And this one was sent to me by my lady friend Jamie.

Stripes in blue.

At first I thought this was a rail fence block but to my knowledge rail fence has three strips of fabric and this block has four. However my knowledge is fairly scanty. But this quilt is pretty in blues isn't it?  I quite like it.

Our day today was kind of quiet again . But we did go to the doctor to get help for the dizziness I have been having. She increased the number of dizzy pills I have been taking. My sister and Ray are call me a dizzy dame.

Then we went out to TOPS for dinner as the doctor appointment was late in the afternoon. Dinner was good, we had Salisbury Steak, potatoes and lovely veggies. I had a coffee. Ray declined.

Then we just came home and watched the news.
Told you...it was a slow day. LOL.

From Urban Country Quilts, love the Flying Geese flying in all four directions.

And that is it for tonight folks.
Good evening.

Mary

I talked to my friend Mary in Calgary a few minutes ago. Isn't the internet wonderful . We can talk to people a world away. Also spoke to Richard and David , briefly but still it is there. I am happy.

I bought a Canadian Living magazine yesterday and it is all recipes. Now if I was a cook that would be fine but I am not. The pictures are lovely and tempt me but then I forget about the cooking.

Today we are staying in for some reason. Too tired out to go out.
I don't even know what day it is. If it is Monday then tomorrow is Tuesday and if Pat is in town we go to Sewing. I have not heard from her so maybe we will be going to sewing. I hope so. If not that won't be too bad since Wednesday is guild and I always like that.

I plan to sew one more block today and that will set me up for the day.  My machine sews like a dream even after sitting on the sewing table doing nothing for some time. I love my Janome, it has no temperament and is a workhorse.

I think I have forgotten to finish this blog.

I have been sick for two days and do not have the energy to write nor the energy to do the blog once more.

Sorry about that. I am not sure where I am tonight.

Rail Fence

http://craftsy.me/1nKbWzb

Lovely Rail Fence quilt in Fall colours. The hues of Autumn are so beautiful even if they predict the dying days of Summer and Fall and the preceding days of Winter.

Find stunning nine-patch inspiration here: http://craftsy.me/1nyqvGg

At first I couldn't see the 9 patches but they pretty quickly showed up  and caught my eye.

Lovely Fall colours in this quilt.

......and this quilt is just plain cheerful.

Almost forgot to write the blog.  But here it is.

A bit of nothing to announce once again. Sunday is always a pretty quiet day for us. We stayed in for the day. I had a long nap which was lovely. Then I sewed one little block , a windmill block for the guild. I need to do some more of them for the guild. I have the plastic bags with the cut pieces in them. So all that needs to be done is to sew them up. I'll get at them tomorrow. It felt good to sew again, it has been a long time.

We did not even cook for dinner , I had Kraft dinner and Ray had a sandwich. Awful isn't it. We need to get our dinners regulated. At least we usually have a decent lunch at a restaurant. Except Sunday of course when we stay home. We have been eating lots of great fruit as it is the season and the fruit is delicious. Tomatoes are wonderful right now too and we eat a lot of those. I like avocados and usually have one on hand. Ray doesn't care for them.

No news but Rick and David are now home from their travels. I am glad that they are back in Calgary and settling down for the winter.
I hope Rick is getting some rest now.

I went to my teachers Pot Luck last night and was out late so no blog. We had a great time . I took a chocolate only to be told that our hostess did not like chocolate cake. I did not know but then you cannot please everyone. I got it at a special bakery and it was lovely . The cake was pricey so it should have been good.  Everyone seemed to enjoy it .
Diane picked me up and brought me home. I am fortunate to have friends who will do that. And grateful too.

My great grandson Quinn, Mary's son. He looks to be getting long. What a cutie.

A good reminder.

That seems to be all for tonight folks.

Have a great evening.
    Good night.

peony

Download now as a pdf pattern

Peony Bouquet is the name of this block .

A budding scholarm our Charlotte starting at home kindergarten. She is a clever girl so will do just fine.

Do you like purple, Ray does and this cat does too it seems. I like this quilt a lot.

Richard is still on the road, in this one he is eating his dinner and drinking his red wine.

I am happy he is having a good trip with David. I love a road trip myself. But Ray is having a hard time driving for a long trip.

This rose is so beautiful that I just had to put it on my blog tonight.

Isn't this a good idea for a kid's quilt. Any child would love to have this quilt to cuddle under.  Well I would LOL.

We had a quiet day . Just had a doctor's appointment for Ray to see what his potassium level is. And once again it is not too good. He has to work harder to get it down some.  He was disappointed in his results. He has to go again for a test next week.

As I said it was quiet and we did very little else .  I had a nap since I slept very little last night.

Isn't this something special?  These leaves are created from selvedges and I think they are most attractive. It takes a lot of sewing to put all these selvedges together so they can be cut into leaf shapes.

My favourite salad, a Greek salad. It is so beautiful and tempting.Tasty too!!  Feta gives this salad its kick. Now I'm hungry. LOL.

Time to close folks.

Have a lovely evening.
      Good night.

early Xmas

There are many early Christmas quilts today , hope you enjoy them and get a few ideas for your Christmas quilts.
This is my favourite Xmas quilt with its beautiful reds and greens.  It is a simple Rail Fence pattern with a stocking block. Gorgeous.

Another beautiful Christmas quilt.

Seasonal place mats for your table.

Looks like candy doesn't it?

Spinning stars and lovely reds and greens.

And what is Christmas without Xmas stockings to hang. These will be a cinch with stripes to sew and a snowman block in the centre. Very attractive stockings.

Charlotte having a great time at the farm. Isn't she cute in her cowboy boots?

The day was another gorgeous Fall day, sun all day and still it is shining at 6:15 this evening.  We had to go to the Ostomy clinic again and still there will be another visit next day. But the news is good and all is well .

We went for fish and chips for lunch but did not have the chips as Ray is not allowed to eat potatoes so I did not order them either as it tempts him to have some of mine. I had a deep fried oyster and fish. It was plenty and  very tasty.

Then we came back to our mall to go to the clinic for Ray to have blood tests taken. The place was packed and we had to wait for quite a long time. But we are patient LOL.

We came home and vegetated. Well I looked at some of my items that needed sewing. Did not sew but got them organized to sew maybe on Sunday as that is usually the day I sew if I do.

There a bright and cheerful quilt to sleep under.
And now it is time to go.
    Have a lovely evening.
                      Good night.

a very rainy day

And the rains came down, and down and down. Did we stay at home?  No. We went out for a while to our local mall and to the market for fruits and veggies. It poured but we are west coasters and do not drown in the rain. As a matter of fact it was a refreshing day. But then I like the rain. It brings back good memories of my childhood when we would go to  Stanley Park for the day. Usually the rain does not come down for the whole day but breaks up around 3:00 PM. Not today . It poured all day. I think it has stopped now though at 6:52.  The plants are  happy with all the rain. The cars on the street are washed clean of all the road dirt so not everyone is unhappy. I love the rain so this kind of a day makes me happy even when I get wet.

We came home and washed all the fruits and veggies and put them in their containers. All the work was done so we just watched TV.
Our life is so quiet.

I need to call Marg and see how her day went. I did but her phone is busy.

Peony

Download now as a pdf pattern

This block is a weird looking peony if you ask me. But then no one has asked me LOL.

A portion of a cat quilt, standard setting.

Pretty butterflies on this quilt. I love butterfly quilts and need to get my own Butterfly blocks organized. They are all sitting on my sewing table. I had forgotten about them.

I like this card LOL.

And the latest Hexagon.
Another hexagon to add to the collection.

Another beauty.

Amazing block, I have one similar that a friend made for me. It is in my roll and I take it out and look at it periodically. Beautiful piece of work.  Sorry no pattern.

Finally folks be kind to our furry friends.

Have a lovely evening.
Good night.

block 4

Download now as a pdf pattern
     Starry Windmill is tonight's block.

I hope you all had a fineLabour Day.

Despite the rain it was a good day for us too. We had to go to Lazy Boy again regarding the new chairs we bought and that had fabric that wrinkled . The store is very good at making sure the customer is happy. They are going to give us new chairs. Amazing isn't it. It will take about 6 weeks for the new chairs to arrive. We are so happy with the service.

We spent a few hours at the casino which is right close to Lazy Boy. No big wins this time but we only lost small time, that is good.
We had a Reuben sandwich and fries while we were there. It is the best sandwich , we have one every time we go to that casino. Part of the package LOL.

We had to go to Safeway pharmacy on the way home and to pick up some bread. Tomorrow is my sewing group so I need to take a sandwich for lunch. We have sandwich meat to put in the sandwich so I don't have to make devilled eggs. I am looking forward to the sewing group, Pat is picking me up and giving me a ride. She os a good friend.

A lovely Log Cabin design for this table mat. Log Cabin can be arranged in so many different ways, it is a hugely useful block.

One block design, in this case the one block is the Tumbler Block which nests closely with each other. This one is done in 1932 fabric I think.
This one is a string 1/4 block separated each  by a white strip. It looks like a bit of fun to make.

Hearts aplenty , hearts are my favourite but this one is not a favourite with me. Maybe red would make  a difference.

What a beauty, these are great stars and would make a lovely wall hanging.

Time is up folks.
Have a great evening.

Good night.
