the game is up

The news is bad, the Bruins are  ahead by 3 goals , there is very little chance of a catch up against Tim Thomas unless a miracle happens.
We had to take some equipment back to the Red Cross. We had borrowed it earlier in the year whne the hospital recommended that I use a bathtub seat and rail for the bed and a walker. None of them worked for me. The walker was really awkward, it had no wheels so needed to be lifted, and I prefer to stand in the tub,so the seat just took up a lot of room and I did not need the rail to get in and out of bed.
When we got there the whole street was dug up and we had to root around for a parking spot.  We did leave a monetary donation for the service.
The downtown casino was close by so we decided to take in a short time.  I won around  $500, gave Ray some and came home with several hundred dollars. Good Day! I have been lucky lately :))
The crowds were coming in for the game and the streets are jammed packed now. Too bad ,the disappointment will be tremendous.
The man came with the juice or champagne as Ray calls it . He , the man, brings the antibiotic every second day.
We had spaghetti for dinner again. Love that stuff.
A post card I received from a swap.

Did you know that June 13th was Happy Sewing Machine Day? I received a beautiful site from a friend but it is too big for this blog so I have asked her where she got it so I can recommend it to you. It is quite delightful.

I only got one photo today and that one was a bit short of so I only got the rear end of the dog LOL.
Pretty bad isn't it, oh well it's all I managed to get today.
Time's up, have a lovely evening ladies and gents.
Good night.

lots of tutorials

http://dquilts.blogspot.com/2011/06/quilting-tool-caddy-tutorial.html
On the right side are lots of tutorial for many different projects. I wish I was sewing right now but I need to do a lot of cleaning up of my sewing table.

http://www.modabakeshop.com/2011/06/walk-in-park-quilt.html
This is a very attractive quilt, I hope I am not repeating myself and showing the same site more than once. If so forgive me , after all I have been ill . LOL
I promised to show you my latest completed butterfly and then promptly forgot about it. So today I remembered and took a photo. Here it is......
Japanese umbrellas and a beautiful pink fabric. The next  photo is to show the applique stitches. I'll tell you how I get them so small.
I use the ladder stitch or applique stitch ,
Check here for instructions  and as you can see it can be used for binding. I use this stitch for my binding too as well as applique.
The other trick is using silk thread. My thread box is full of all different colours of silk thread. That is the secret to invisible applique stitches.  I like doing applique, it is very satisfying.
This was the day to go to the hospital to see the infectious disease specialist. He said I was doing really well but to remember that he could offer no guarantees as to killing this germ. How could I forget that the failure of this treatment is to have my bladder removed. I just hope this is doing the trick. I feel well so that is a good thing.
Then I had to have a nap, I have been getting quite tired with all these antibiotics. But on the whole it has been good and no side effects.  I am a tough old bird LOL.
Well Game Seven is tomorrow and I don't think I can stay to watch it so I'll read a book. I know when there is a score as Ray will yell "We Scored" , no need for me to watch haha.
Have a great evening folks, it is nice and cool here so it will be an easy evening.
Aloha ahiahi.

my heart is broken

The Canucks have choked again in Boston, 4 goals on us in the first ten minutes. I can't watch any more.

After the clinic this morning we met Sam for lunch. He is waiting for a new truck to come from Ford. It is taking a long time, months. What is wrong with Ford, business too good?
We went to Costco , at first we couldn't think of what  we needed. How awful is that. But finally we managed to spend some money LOL. I bought 3 books for me and Ray picked up a a very nice cook book for Sam. Ray always thinks everyone want a cookbook or several haha. What a big disappointment I must be to him, I have never wanted a cook book LOL. I remember the first time I got married when my new husband absolutely insisted I buy a cookbook. Eventually I became a not so bad cook , but under protest, not my favourite thing to do.
Ray just loves to buy cookbook, we have so many that he doesn't buy for himself any more but who knows how many Sam will get.  :))
These are mine, Michael Connelly, Angels Flight, Alex Kava's Damaged , and the Sins of the Borgias. That should be a very interesting book. The Borgias were a dreadful family who desired the Papacy and through poisoning  and other methods achieved their aim.
By the time we finished at Costco where we met two friends and had a good gossip, I was really tired . When we came home I had a long lovely nap.
My dog pictures of the day.
Dog walking is in vogue at the time we leave for the clinic but Ray won't slow down the car so I have to take them on the fly, which is why my pictures are not the best. I am thinking of buying a better camera.Do you think that will do the trick LOL.
That's the dogs for today, not that good but still I love the dogs. If I could catch pictures of my other love , birds, that would be fun, but that isn't going to happen.
Have a good evening we have stopped watching the game so my heart will last out the evening Haha.

making starch

http://www.freckledwhimsy.com/2010/06/tidbit-tuesday-7.html

I got this from another list . You can make your own starch/sizing  for stiffening blocks so as to make sewing the blocks more accurate.

Wicked Easy quilt pattern , perfect for charity, guild, quick quilts of any sort.
http://luvstoquilt.blogspot.com/

www.orgsites.com/il/projectlinuschicago/wicked_easy_quilts_patterns.pdf

Both of these sites carry the Wicked Easy Quilt pattern -  Free.
My day has been tiring for some reason . Well I know the reason as I asked the nurse this morning . Apparently being on antibiotics for so long does make one tired. Another thing it does is affects the taste buds but not necessarily the appetite LOL. But fortunately the time is fast approaching when it will be over. I see the specialist on Tuesday and I come off  this apparatus on June 29th.
We went to London Drugs for additional medications. I needed some Florastor. It works keeping the intestines healthy but boy is it expensive, over 50 Dollars for a small bottle. But worth it as it works .
We had a bite to eat at McDonald's, a small salad for me and Ray had McNuggets. He gave me one of his chicken pieces.  He is so kind. Then he came home and got the housework and washing finished.
When we got home I had a long nap. It takes me a long time to wake up .Some people jump out of bed but I crawl out and take a long time to start my day.LOL.
I did take a bit of time to read my library book. It is called The Hanging Tree, not a particularly hot  page turner/burner but not that bad either. There is a lot of hockey in the content of the story as the hero was once a goal tender for the town team. Still it has elements of  bad character and sleaziness on the part of the anti hero. Not all that bad as I am still reading it. :)
Parade days today. The fire department was out with their antique fire trucks on show. Some were being pulled by teams of 6 horses . It was so lovely even on TV.

Then there was a Hands Across the Border parade of the Boy and Girl Scouts celebrating the long peace between our two countries. The border was closed for 4 hours while the event took place.

I hope the evening is good for everybody, it is starting to cool down a bit here.
Guten Abend.

What a party

Mary and Albert had a beautiful ceremony today. They have been married for a year but it was a JP ceremony and they wanted something more meaningful . Mary looked gorgeous in  a beautiful dress  with a train and sparkling sequins on the shoulders and Albert looked elegant in a three piece suit.
Albert

Mary

Katie spoke eloquently to Mary and Albert about the meaning of marriage , the blessing of the wedding rings and the future of their lives together. It was such a happy occasion.

Mary and Albert chose a beautiful venue at Crescent Beach and fortunately we had a lovely day for it.
The tables in the dining room were elegantly set, Carla did all the flowers and the food was delicious. Cheese and fruit plates, dinner roast beef, mashed potatoes, gravy, lasagna and many other side dishes.

And of course no party would be a success without Charlotte would it. She and Dad had a good time.

I kind of like the whimsy of the shoes in the grass LOL
After dinner I was really tired so we left the party and came home.
Have a lovely evening folks.

puzzle time

http://www.jigzone.com/puz/zemThumb?p.jz.jzK.Yacht_Garden_3453:jpg)"/>>  Good puzzle today. Hope the pieces are the right size

Go Canucks Go!!
And they went.   Hurrah!!

http://stashmanicure.blogspot.com/  The best tutorial on making hexagon shapes that I have ever seen.

I was at my pot luck group tonight and then the noise erupted, cars all honking their horns  and people calling out. The man next door to Janet's was out on the sidewalk waving a huge Canucks flag and his 2 little girls were waving it too. So now the series is 3 for us and 2 for them. We only need one more game. I so hope they can do it. The Bruins are a good team and the goalie Thomas is fantastic.

I am really tired now so this is it for my blog. Maybe tomorrow I can finish it. Thanks for your patience.
I hope your evening was as good as mine was.
Good night.

http://bethstrand.wordpress.com   DIY Block of the Month, this one is an Ohio Star. There are other DIY BOMs too.

http://www.debkarasik.com/userfiles/file/paper%20piecing%20cheat%20sheet%203.pdf
Really great pictures of how to paper piece for those who need a few hints.
The day began with the visit to the clinic as usual. It took a bit longer as the tubing had to be changed. But after we went for a coffee , no walking today as my hip was bad. Hopefully it will get better tomorrow.
Marg came over this afternoon with a new Nora Roberts book, her latest entitled Chasing Fire.
The book I am reading now is Stolen ,author Susan Lewis. It is a very interesting mystery about a stolen child. That is implied in the beginning of the book and  then is hinted at throughout the book. It is about two families who are involved with this child, now an adult. The mystery is well done as you are kept guessing as to whom the abducted child is , who are the abductors, and who are the parents that suffered such a huge loss. It is one of those books that keep you reading into the night.  It is a mystery without blood and gore , just a puzzle to solve. It's a very nice read that keeps your brain jumping back and forth trying to figure it out. Also it gives insights into the business of  antiques and auctions of the same.
The nurse dropped in again this afternoon to show us what to do if the pump starts beeping in the middle of the night.
Some more pictures from last night .
A beautiful quilt by a wonderful quilter. She bought a sack of batik scraps and cut them into strips which she then sewed together , I think there were 6 strips in each block, then she set them in this pleasing arrangement ,added the thin strip and a border of piano keybord strips.
Beautiful Japanese Irises. And they survive the winters and bloom again for many years.
Poppies all over town brightening up the landscape , filling the eye with colour.
The end LOL!!!!
Have a great evening....
Bon nuit.

Guild and dinner

http://tinyurl.com/3vjzm2v
Another hexagon table runner. Nice and fresh looking.
Luongo chokes in the clutch, The coach had to pull him. Why does he do this when we really need him. Boston walked all over the Canucks again.
eight flags, hmmm a bit over the top wouldn't you say?

Kathy took me to guild tonight but we had dinner first. It was the election of the new officers for next year. This was a lot easier as they streamlined the procedure. There was a good Show and Tell and it was a great evening of meeting and greeting. Many members talked to me about my illness and were quite interested in my Constant Companion. It was lovely to see so many friends. It has been a long time away.
Mary Alice made this for her 3 year old granddaughter who preferred the backing as it had jelly beans on it LOL.
the little table runner in the centre was a technique I did not know of and didn't understand  when the quilter explained. So much for that but it was really clever.

I got quite tired and we left a bit earlier than we would normally.
I started the day in the evening so I'll back up to morning. We had to go to the clinic at 9:30 and after that we went for coffee and Timbits at Tim Horton's. Then we had to come home since Bill the carpet cleaner was coming at noon.  He did a great job as usual but was not quite able to get out a big coffee stain where I had spilled  coffee. He did get a lot of it out though.
When he was done Ray and I went to the Medical Supplies store to renew some of the supplies that I need .  The lady there knows us now, I wish she didn't LOL. Then we had to go to Safeway for a few things.
By that time it was almost time for Kathy to pick me up. It was a full day,now I am ready for bed, just need to download the photos on my camera and put some of them up.
I hope you all had a lovely evening. I did, thanks Kathy.

more hexagons

http://tinyurl.com/3r2t8sd
More ideas for using hexagons. I made a table runner myself using Hexagons. I think I may have mentioned that in an earlier blog. This one is really attractive.
Here is some  postcards I made of hexagons for a swap I entered.

http://www.maryquilts.com/new-forest-bricks/  this pattern looks like an easy one to do if you need one in a hurry.

I'm adding sites to see today as I have not felt well so we did not go out except to the clinic to get my new antibiotic installed in my pack. Then we came right back home and I went to bed for a few hours. I'm still a bit slack.

http://gramadebbiesdesO igns.com
For those of you who do machine embroidery this site has some great recipes to add to tea towels for gift giving.

The most miserable hockey game ever last night, at least for the Canucks. We lost 8 to 1 to the Bruins. I can't believe that the Canucks could be that bad. They need to pull up their socks and play hockey , not fight and knock each other over. Oh well there are still 4 games to go. Time to win?

I loved making this quilt . It was in a quilting magazine and the blocks were double 4 patch-so much fun to make. I think this was the quilt that I enjoyed making the most. Katie is on the right and Rick whom you can't see is on the left.
Time to sign off.  Kathy I will bring your winning FQs tomorrow when we go to guild.
Have a lovely evening ladies.
Good night folks.

back to hospital

When I said the pump was fine last night I was wrong. The pump did not work. We called the night number for emergency and the night nurse did not know how to fix the pump either. What good is that? :(
He said go to the emergency ward at the hospital. So off we went. The ER was packed , lots of little children. It is so sad when babies are so ill that they didn't even cry. Anyway we had to wait for some time needless to say only to discover there was no one in the hospital who knew how to fix the pump. But they do know how to run an IV and they set me up with the antibiotic . By this time it was 12:30 PM and we got home around 1:30. I was grateful to get that midnight dose and the  ER doctor assured me that my 6:00 dose which would  be 3 hours late would be okay. So we got to the clinic this morning at 9:15 and the pump was reset. So all is well.
We met Bob and Buzz for lunch . They are going to Reno next week. I wish we could go with them. But that won't happen for some time.
Ray and I were quite tired after our late night adventure so we both had a nap when we got home.
That was the day, nothing exciting I'm afraid.
We are watching the game Boston just scored so it is 1 to 0 for Boston. Not happy!!!!  It is  the beginning of the second period.
Another beautiful Vancouver day, warm, sunny, gorgeous. I took some photos.
The streets are so beautiful,
This is the one  coming from the clinic. and this is later LOL.
Can't get the photos up because the site is not working right now. Later I'll add them.
This is our street , it is always a pleasure coming home to this beautiful sight.

Boston got another goal so it is 2 to 0 for Boston. I am not happy twice over :) The last I heard it was 5 - 0 for Boston, how dreadful for us.
However I'll show you a truck decorated with Canuck flags and even a whale on top of the van.
Same van .

I'll get back to you later . Have a good evening!
Well I did get back to you, enjoy the pictures.
Bon Soir
