Dear Jane

http://whatahootquilts.blogspot.com/2013/08/wips-dear-jane-flimsy-earth-monkeys.html

Dear Jane quilt.
Have you ever started a Dear Jane quilt and is it lying in a box like mine is. LOL. I have seen very few completed ones so I think that is where they are.  This one is  unique in that the background is blue.  It is beautiful in Trip Around the World pattern.

It was a great night last night with my Pot Luck friends. We started with Jan serving  cheeeses, crackers and veggies as starters. While she worked in the kitchen we ate up the beginnings.  For the main course we repaired to  the dining room where the table was beautifully set. Chicken was on the menu with a lovely sauce that featured cranberries. Along with that there were roasted vegetables. Dessert was two kinds of pie along with ice cream. I did not have pie just the ice cream.
It was a lovely evening , lots of great conversation and food. It is lovely to get along with old friends .

Ellen, we taught together as did all of us.
Janet out youngest member. When she first began to teach it was as my partner. She was a perfect teacher  right from the start. The purse belongs to another Jan. There are three  Jans in our group of nine.
From left to right Judith on the left, Diana in centre and Karen on the right. Karen drove me to the dinner party and Diane drove me home. They are such good friends to me.

Isn't this cabinet of blue china gorgeous.  Not in my friend's house but off the net.

My dear friend Gail from Arizona at a special quilt show. It is good to see that she is out and about after a long session in hospital.

This looks fairly easy to make but you would have to ask Paulina at Hamels for the instructions.

Dogs are just a lot of love. Last night Jan had a big black dog called Sheba and she was loving to everybody. It was lovely to visit with her. I would like to have a fog.

My son Jim and Ahmed , good friends for a long time.

My grandson Rich and his new fiancee June just got engaged to be married. Congratulations to you both.
They live in Louisiana so we don't get to see them very often, Sad but true.

We have had wonderful weather lately. This is how it was today. What could be better on a January day, blue skies , warm days and trees still waiting to leaf. If winter comes can spring be far behind. No it cannot.

Today Ray and I did our regular shopping at the grocery store. I am still looking for the 100 blocks magazines. Still no luck I am afraid.
And that was ll we did, came home and watched TV. I had a long nap, tired from yesterday. Richard called and we had a good chat. He was going out with his friend Elizabeth for dinner. I am happy that he has a good social life

Lots of people pictures tonight. I hope you enjoyed them, I love sharing my photos.
The last one is me taken last night.
I gained some weight over Christmas and I am still  eating at parties. I need to refuse food.

Time to go folks.
Have a great evening.

Good night.

patch of nine

Download now as a pdf pattern

This block is called a Nine Patch Star. It is the favourite block of my dear friend Gail's but she calls it the Friendship Star.

Kaleidescope is what you see here.

I won't be doing the blog tonight as I was out at a dinner party and it is late 11:35. I will go at it in the morning. Thank you for your patience.
Good night.

Well it is morning and I am going out again so the blog will have to wait until its regular time , after dinner.

Have a great day folks and thanks again for your patience.

scraps

http://www.victorianaquiltdesigns.com/VictorianaQuilters/PatternPage/LovingOurEarth/LovingOurEarthScrapPatchProject.htm

This is a good one to show how to make a scrap patch.

My sister Marg made a few observations today about yesterday's blog.
1. I said my great granddaughters in Quebec were all girls. Marg noted that all daughters are girls LOL. Right there Sis.
2. Remember the book I said I had no idea where it came from. Apparently it came from Marg.
3. Mary told me Charlotte's birthday was January  7.

It is a good thing my family keeps me posted Haha.

We managed to get out hair cut this morning. Ray got his done first and I waited for him , then mine was cut second while he waited for me. We went down to Metrotown afterward and had a hamburger at Burger King. We walked half the mall after that but it tired me out and we came back. Then we sat down , bought a scratch ticket and shared a Dairy Queen small sundae.
On the way home we stopped at Safeway , Ray went in to pick up his prescription and we came home. Ray had a head ache and his afternoon was not good. He is feeling better now.
I made dinner for me and a sandwich for Ray.
That was it for the day.Not much for a day is it.
When we got home we did not do very much either.

There was a terrible fire at Isle Verte  Quebec senior's home Residence du Havre.  Many members of the home which did not have a sprinkler system did not survive. Five deaths confirmed and 30 missing residents, presumed dead. Fires in the winter are so common and so devastating.

I told you to stay out of there.

This so amused me, whatever  it means.

Isn't this fabulous. Orange hearts are gorgeous in this case.

String vests are not that common but I have seen a couple of them before. This one is good because  it separates out the blocks and still makes them appear to be a whole block. See what I mean.

A quilt. Not one  I would make but it looks easy.  No pattern either.

The chevron quilt featured here is for a baby boy. Nice isn't it?

Not finished yet but I would use this for a table topper.

These two are close friends.

Time for bed.

And that means me as I am really ready.
Have a good evening.

Good night.

Abe Lincoln Platform     Oh my this is a pretty Block of the Day. Well after all it is pink.

Free and Easy patterns to make.

Our granddaughter Mary, Rose's mom is expecting another baby and discovered today it is a BOY.  We are happy about that because all our great granddaughters are girls . Congratulations to Mary,  Albert and Rose.

We went to the salon this morning to get haircuts only to discover the appointments were for tomorrow.
So we decided to go for lunch. We went for pancakes at IHOP but got eggs and sausages too. Good stuff and we had not been there for some time.
Then we went to the medical equipment shop for some belts for me and then because the casino was right next door we went there for a time but not for too long. We were home early and I was once again tired so I had a nap.
I read for a while, a book called The Eleventh Victim. I have no idea where I got it and it has been recovered in a heavy black cover with no title or author inscribed on the cover. A mystery but the book reads well and I am enjoying reading it.

I discovered today that I can down/upload books from the library. I will try again. The last time I tried the librarian had no idea how to do that but it was a while ago, so I'll try it again. It will be a bit less expensive or a lot less expensive.
I may go into the library tomorrow while Ray is getting his hair cut.

We are watching Bomb Girls a series that is a look into the past for me. I recall much of what is going on in this series. I was a girl during WW2 and it was the most important thing happening at the time. I feel as if I was situated in the middle of this period piece.
I thought this one was funny, we love these wonderful horses. once when we were in Sealand in Florida we saw teams of these guys that belonged to Anhauser Busch. Ray had his picture taken with them. He used to work with these horses in the logging camps in ontario when he was young and fell in love with them.

Charlotte cooking up a storm.

Emma and Catherine eating up a bowl of Kraft dinner. These two granddaughters live in Quebec.

A table runner with no pattern. I have a quilt show tonight without patterns.
What a pretty log cabin quilt covering the table for tea time.
Another pretty piece sitting on a garden bench.

16 patch makes for a lovely quilt.

Not a quilt......adorable though.

But this is and it is a 4 square basket quilt.

So here it is the end of the blog and the beginning of the evening.

Well it is actually 9:00 so not quite the beginning LOL.
Good night folks.

It is a very pretty block and is some kind of square LOL. Well actually a 9 Patch Square.

Another day of sewing. I went to my Tuesday sewing group this morning with Pat. We stopped first at Starbucks  for coffee, what else ? It was a nice visit for us.
The sewing ladies were lots of fun, some of them talking about their upcoming trips to places in the world. I like to hear where they have been and where they are going. Mostly it is the ladies without spouses who are travelling the world, but not all. Some are going to Palm Springs alone or with their husbands. Palm Springs seems to be a very popular get away. My son Peter and his wife Judith like to go there.  We have never been there but I am thinking of going one of these days.
Ray took his cousin Gus to the hospital to get a wire fixed on his pacemaker. They kept Gus in the hospital overnight and will do the procedure tomorrow. Then Ray will pick him up after we go for our haircuts late in the morning.
Pat brought me home from sewing and I lay down for a good nap. I was tired when I got up this morning. 7:00 is way too early for me to get up in the AM. Lazy Susan I am.  I have always had difficulty getting up. When I was a girl the rest of my family were early birds and I was the cuckoo in the nest. Different from the other four who managed to get up early without any problems.  I think Marg still gets up early. She is out and about while I am still abed.

It was a good day for me as Tuesday always is.  Although some day I would like to go to Pumpkin Seeds after my sewing group in the morning.  That means someone has to bring me home. Juliet used to but now she has a grandchild and she goes to the North Shore after Pumpkin Seeds to see the baby and her daughter. It is a long way for Ray to come. He would have to go right across town and that is a nuisance.
Rick called today , I  think he goes out tonight to his game night.

This is such a pretty teapot. It would look great on anyone's table.

Time to go folks.
Have a lovely evening.

Good night.
My heart is twisted LOL.

a day with Charlotte

Not a full day with Charlotte but then she puts so much energy into a day, an hour ,a minute that it seems like a day with Charlotte. It is so much fun to watch her and interact with her. She is into ballet nowadays and danced the day away showing off her ballet positions.  It is so interesting to watch her.

Lunch for a girl in the little red dress Great Grandpa and Great Grandma gave her for her birthday on the 15th. And a friend.

Such a cheerful little face.

Artist at work.
Charlotte made a bed for the snowman and for herself  from my Santa quilt.

On the way to the beach.

Good bye sweet Charlotte. and Meaghan and Lewis.

Have a lovely day at the beach.
They left here to go to the beach and catch seashells. LOL.
She is a wonderful little girl and so entertaining. She does like the attention but then who doesn't.

Ray and I stayed home for the day. He is not feeling too well and his rheumatoid arthritis is becoming bad. His fingers on the right hand are swollen like sausages and that is supposed to be his good hand. When we were married for just three weeks he put his hand through the rotating saw and cut off all the fingers of his left hand.  I wrapped them up along with his hand in a towel and we rushed to the hospital and the best hand surgeon in the province was on duty and sewed them all on. He said that it might take 10 days before he would know if they really would take. Matthew unwrapped the bandages every morning and re wrapped them for the day while I went to work. He took such good care of Ray's hand and I think that is why the fingers took. There are no knuckles in that hand as the saw took care of that.
However his right hand is very sick with arthritis. He is a bit down  and in pain about that.
Tomorrow we are both going out and maybe that will help him feel better. Ray is taking his cousin Gus to the hospital and I am going quilting with Pat.  Gus has to go to the hospital because one of the wires to his pacemaker has to be  rewired. It broke away. Gus does not drive so Ray is the designated driver.
I need to get my sewing bag prepared tonight.
After Meaghan, Lewis and Charlotte left to go to the beach we stayed home.  So it was a no go out day  LOL.

For dinner I put a meat pie in the oven and made some gravy for it. I liked it. Ray must have too as he ate it.  Then I made egg salad for my sandwich tomorrow. Now I am all prepared for the day.

I think I will do a bit of knitting tonight if I can get off this computer.
I see Meg needs some new socks.
Everything smelled so sweet when the laundry was hung outside . But when it rained it was a huge pain drying it indoors on a rack that hung from the ceiling.

Kittens are so adorable.

This is not true of most of my memories but it stirs the romantic in me for some strange reason. The road that leads to somewhere.
Pretty table Runner with curved lines.

So this is all for tonight folks. I am out of surprises.

Have a lovely evening.
Good night.
