SNOW

Woo , it fell in those teeny tiny flakes and melted as soon as it hit the road but then the snow fell more strongly and stayed on the ground.

We were still able to go grocery shopping in the morning as the roads were clear from all the traffic. After we came home and put all the groceries away we made a trip to The Villa, the closest casino in town. It was a good day. Ray won around $400 and gave me $100 as I was not winning at all. He won most of the day so he said the casino would take us for dinner at TOPS. We go there often as it is like a neighbourhood restaurant and they know us there.
We had salad and their wonderful dressing, then Salsbury Steak a favourite of ours. The plates were very large and I could not eat it all. Too bad as it is very good. Ray managed to eat all his dinner. We had no room for dessert. If we want dessert we will have to go for just that LOL.

So now we are content and relaxing for the evening. the TV is on and the news is interesting.
Tomorrow is the men's hockey Canada against Sweden.

This picture
is of a huge stone that fell off the mountain
.Highway 3A between Castlegar and Creston closed after a large rockfall on February 21, 2014. A BIG rock fall.

Try and get past this one LOL.

And try and get past this one LOL.  It is so cute with these darling kittens under the protection of the bull dog.

Such a cute

four square quilt with an appliqued border.

It is an Eleanor Burns  piece.

And this is from quiltmaker 100 blocks.

I looked again today and still no sign of this issue.

olympics

Ladies this is what the girls are doing in the Olympics....winning. It is wonderful. Canadian ladies are also winning lots of medals.

http://www.hoffmanfabrics.com/content/content-article.asp?ArticleID=201

The quilt that is an Olympic design , very beautiful and made in batiks.

Gentle little blocks that look so pretty in this quilt.

Cute button for keeping the stray threads out of the way. Clever idea.

Great tutorial of Cathedral Windows and some hexagons. I might try these.

Dresden hearts. I have seen this one several times  with no pattern. I'll search tonight.  I can find lots of photos but no pattern so far.

Quilting Up A Creek and Carolyn Designs

The pattern is on this site as a PDF. With templates.

As for my day I was not feeling up to par and did a lot of sleeping. Then Marg came over with some mail and we watched more Olympics after she went home.  I didn't even get dressed today.  That only happens when I am not feeling up to par. But I feel better now.  And  that was the day. Pathetic isn't it? But tomorrow will be a better one.

So the blog will be a bit short as well.

Funny comic about a quilter. These are fun.

This young man is saving a baby deer  who got swept away in the river.

Not a good place to land. These boys are licking their chops.LOL

Have   a great evening folks.
Good night.

midget blocks

some more midget blocks, now up to block # 164 -
http://www.sentimentalstitches.net/free-stuff/midget-blocks

No picture showing up here.
I hope you get this picture I could not get it up on the blog. These are midget blocks and appear like the Dear Jane blocks , mostly the same size.

there’s a great journal cover tutorial over here

Ha I found it in a site I had not looked at before. Lots of stuff there.
I saved the journal cover twice .

We had a good morning , busy , but once the morning was over we were too LOL.
We had to go to the eye doctor at 8:45 this morning. We waited for a while until he was ready to take us. He checked Ray's first as he has macular degeneration. But his eyes were good , no movement on the disease so we were happy about that. Then he checked out my eyes and once again there was no difference. We went away happy. Then we drove over to Chapters to see about using our air miles to buy a Kobo or Kindle. However the clerk said we would have to go through Air Miles.  Later....

Then we walked around some , went into a children's clothing store but we didn't buy anything.  The girls buy the little girl's clothing second hand a paying full price which is very pricey seems a waste of money. I should just give the momma's the money. They can spend it better than I can.

By then it was all over for us and we came home.

Olympics kind of engaged us especially when we won two more gold medals. It is all going well for Canada this time.

Cake Stand. This block is the first one I made ,it was when I joined the guild and this block was the block of the month then and we all were supposed to make one. I struggled with it but eventually got it made.

I like this one LOL.

I like this one too LOL.

Shadows on this quilt interfere with this quilt which is one of my favourite designs. I made this one and gave it to my son Jim. It is on his bed.
The block is a Triple Four Patch.

That's my day and now it is time for my night.

Have a lovely evening folks.
Good night.

Keeping warm.

a visit

We had our lunch visit with Bob and Buzz and visited with them for two hours, It was great. I certainly enjoy the chance to get together and chat about what is going on in their lives and ours. They are going to  Hawaii I think. We aren't. I would love to go to Hawaii but since I have been ill and never know when that illness will fall on me we are not comfortable going to the States . Mostly because I don't think my insurance will pay if I get sick.  I should have gone before all this happened. So I say to you do what you want to do while you still can. You never know what will happen to you. Buzz told me that I could use my Air Miles to buy a Kindle or a Kobo that is back lit and easier to read. I need to check it out.

I forgot my camera today so I'll use an older version of pictures of them.

After lunch Ray and I walked about half the top floor of the mall. It was a good walk for me. We did not shop even though I saw a nice yellow purse I would like for spring. And it had a matching wallet too. Very nice!!
On the return walk we stopped and shared a Dairy Queen sundae.
It was strawberry and so delicious.

We did not make any other stops and came right home. Both of us took a nap but Rick called in the middle of my nap and we had a chat and a greeting with Jim who was with him. It was good to hear from both of them. Jim is still renovating the bathroom for Rick as he is  widening  the door for Rick to get into the bathroom with ease. Jim is a good brother. Ray and I will go to Calgary when spring comes. We do not have snow tires on our car so it has to be spring and pray that it does not snow then.

I did  not do any sewing or  embroidery today, hopefully tomorrow after our morning visit to the eye doctor whom we saw in the mall today.

This block is a Dear Jane block I made when I belonged to a Dear Jane group. It is called Mary Ruth's corset. I really liked this one and its name.
I could not recall the whole name but through the wonder of the internet and putting in Ruth's Corset, Dear Jane block The whole name came up. Amazing!!

Another thing I really like is a pieced ironing board cover. Isn't this one pretty. Not mine unfortunately. I have seen a number of these and always enjoy looking at them. See how the end where the iron is is a checkerboard and then the rest of the cover is strips.  Nice.

 MMM orange cupcakes.  Delicious!

I have always liked this quilt block but have not made one.   I wonder what it is named, then maybe I could find the pattern.
I entered Stretched Nine Patch into my browser and behold it came up. I am thrilled. I also found the pattern to make it but lost it so now I plan to go back and get it.
Click on Moore About Nancy and you will find out how to make it.
It uses melons to get the curve. Fascinating.

Hexagons are still knocking around LOL.

This is so true. Members of a family can have an out but usually get it all sorted out and become a family again. Love conquers all.

That is it folks.
Have a great evening.
Good night.

blue cross

Download now as a pdf pattern
Blue Cross is the name of this block and the name of my health care service ;)
I keep losing my cursor, irritating....

Today was my sewing Tuesday but the elevator was still not working this morning so Pat did not come for me.  Of course no what is the point. However Ray tells me it is now fixed. thank goodness I can get out tomorrow for a chance to walk around a bit. Maybe we can get out for lunch.

So back to staying in for the day. At least I did. Ray managed to get out for a while. I sewed and unsewed  LOL. My block finally came together. I spent most of the afternoon sewing. I had to add border strips to the block as it was too small. The measurements are intended to be 12 1/2 inches and the border strips make it that size.

Then I did a few pieces of the blocks I got from the guild last week. Tomorrow I'll do some more of them. It has been some time since I actually sewed and I enjoyed my day doing it.  I want to get at my embroidery too .

We are still eating the small pork loin after three days. Tonight it went into the freezer for another time. Maybe it will make a good stew with rice and tomatoes. MMM.

I think I'll finish off my knitted dish cloth tonight. And that will make for a productive day. I sure enjoy that, it makes me feel good.

It was raining all last night and again today. Outside is a sea of mud. The huge number of trees in our property has caused the grass to die and we have dirt which of course becomes mud in the rain. I sure hope the management has plans to  reseed in the spring.

A pretty Dresden Plate with my favourite sashing and corner blocks.

This is so delightful with all the lovely little girl  things that girls love.  There that is so much better. I had to make it extra large so you can see the blocks.

I really like this way of storing fat quarters or other sizes of fabric. However once you start cutting into the fabric it is harder to store neatly. Or so I find.

This is so fresh and clean looking great for spring.

And that is all for tonight.
Have a great evening.
Good night.

slow day

Slow day, we stayed in all day . Once again the elevator was not working. I called our management company person and she said she did not know. I guess she does not read her e mail as I wrote to her on Friday. Well she knows now so we'll see how long it takes. Ray just went down and had a look to see if it was fixed. Not! Tomorrow is my sewing day. I'll go down in the morning with Ray's help and hopefully it will be fixed by the time I get home. Going down is not too bad but climbing up three flights is difficult. Enough complaining.

Oh no not really. I sewed up my block and it has to be unsewed as it is not right. I need it for the end of the month so I am glad I got started early. It may take me a month to get things right. I really must practice doing more blocks. I've  got lots of fabric to practice on until I get it right.

My dinner tonight was more of the pork loin but I made some of the dried package gravy to liven things up. Sounds awful but it tastes good. And I served it with corn kernels. Ray did not eat , he is getting funny about his meals preferring sandwiches but I enjoy a real meal once in a while, more than once in a while, so I make one for myself.

Other than that we watched the Olympics . They are fun to watch.

And Rose finds it fun to watch her feet. She is such a fun girl.

Isn't this hilarious?
The rooster is a wise guy hiding out from the chicken hawks of KFC.  Attaboy!

I get to play hooky every day. It's called retirement....However I do not work on quilting that often.

Isn't this pretty. Rainbow colours in pastel are always gorgeous.

And the cat sleeps on on a blanket. Whenever and wherever he wants LOL.

This picture really struck me hard. It is amazing and beautiful and symmetrical almost. It is perfect.

That is it folks.
Have a lovely evening.

Good night.
