About the northern cross

Northern  Cross

This is an attractive design. It appears that the corners are folded over. And I do like the colours chosen.  It is the ubiquitous nine patch all over again using half square triangles, rectangles and a square to make a lovely design.  In the northern sky, it is a constellation the largest star of which is called Deneb and is at the tail of the constellation.

I am having a bit of a problem coming up with topics tonight. Maybe because it is late, nearly 9 O'Clock and my brain is tired.

We did go out today , to the doctor. Ray had to see her about his aches and pains. He has to go back as she cannot get him to the specialist for three months. In the meantime he needs to have something for the pain. This arthritis is an awful thing that is causing so much pain. But many of the pain killing drugs are hard on his kidneys which are compromised from a previous illness and hospitalization.  It makes things so difficult for him. But he remains in good cheer. I talked to her about my shaky legs and that the medicine she recommended for me to take was having a good effect as my legs are no longer shaking. Good news.

I wonder that these men are so brave. Richard is the same , he remains cheerful despite his terrible illness ALS. Have any of you seen the movie The Theory of Everything , the story of Stephen Hawkins struggle with the disease.  I have not seen it yet. I think I'll ask Kathy if she is interested in going.

We are watching The Mentalist , it is a two hour show tonight. I think it might be because this is the final showing of this series. Too bad because I do like this show. I wish it could go on for longer.

Amazing isn't it? I love the work that went into creating this work of art.  It is not the first time I have seen something like this.

Lovely looking table runner. It should be easy to duplicate this runner.  Well ... for those of you who are very clever.

MMM Yum!! My mouth is watering at the sight of this cake.

And at this I am closing off the blog for tonight.
Have a lovely evening.

Good night.

Pineapple Tree.

We had a good day today. Bob and Buzz came over for a visit and tea. We had some nice goodies from the bakery and we did have tea as well. Except Bob had milk to go with his cookies.

It was a good long visit and we certainly enjoyed their company as we usually do. We talked about going on a cruise to Alaska. I would love to do that if Ray agrees.

You know how it is when you are long time friends it has been 38 years for the four of us, We always have lots to talk about and stories to share. I am grateful for their friendship, it is worth its weight in gold.

I received a number af great photos of dogs and babies today. Here are a few of them.

An old favourite of the dog and child looking out the window.

This dachshund is curious about what is going on outside.

Big and little contrast in these two pictures are fascinating.

That hillside looks dangerous to me but the baby and his cat are adorable. Look how peaceful the cat is sitting in his lap.

Time to go folks. I am aching, fingers and feet and back.

Have a lovely evening.

Good night.

What a lovely bluebird, paper pieced I believe. Check out the design in the url above the picture to see if there is a paper pieced bird pattern.

Grocery shopping this morning.  We did not have lunch out just came right home. Then we went to Richmond for the afternoon.
Now we are watching a biography of Franklin Delano Roosevelt and Eleanor Roosevelt, mostly about Eleanor. She was a fascinating woman and one who had a heart of gold. She cared greatly for others and was a person who loved the world.

Funny slogan and let us Sew.

And as today is that very special day for all lovers Valentine's Day I add this special heart to my blog.

And now to rest and then to sleep.  Have a great evening folks.
                       Good night dear friends.

A new baby

A new baby Orca has been born in our waters. Always a blessing in that it keeps the Orca population up. We want our whales to survive and flourish.

See the baby at the rear of the mother. Isn't she adorable?

Mom on one side and sister on the other. She is well protected by the females.  The Orca is also called the Killer Whale and can be dangerous so that baby is well protected . This baby is a huge blessing.

Today Ray and I met Bob and Buzz for lunch. It was a great visit. Ray and I shared a hamburger, that is all, no drink or fries.

But Buzz and I had a great chat and so did Bob and Ray.  Buzz and I talked about new clothes, books, holidays, kids and many other topics. She and Bob will be going to Hawaii in April, hope I have that right.   I have never been to Hawaii but would love to go.
Ray is not very interested in that trip though.

After that we walked through the mall for a bit of exercise. We went to Sears and I bought a sweater and two tops. Now I am ready for spring. It was fun and Ray always encourages me to buy something nice for myself. Though he does not get himself anything very often. I wish he would.

We came home from the mall and did very little after that. We watched TV for a while and I read a bit of my book. Then I made dinner , not that is was a big job. Weiners and beans is not hard to make LOL.

I love these older ladies in their red hats. My friend Gail who is ill now was a member of the red hat club down south.

This piece of embroidery is lovely. I would love to make a piece like this. What I'd do with it is anybody's guess.

In the jungle , cute except for that snake.

Seems to be time to go. Have a great evening folks.
Good night.

Fancy Bows

Here is today's free Block of the Day pattern

Download now as a pdf pattern

Another day staying in the house. I am lazy these days and like to stay home. Is it because I am old now? Or is it because I was out late last night at guild.

Kathy picked me up and we met Barb and Judy for dinner at Minerva's. I had Linguine and garlic prawns for my meal. It was most enjoyable. Then we moved on to the church and guild night. I enjoy seeing everyone that I have missed over the past months when I have been ill or in hospital and not able to get out at night. This was my first trip out and it was such fun. Kathy is a great friend who takes me to these places and makes my life so much more pleasant. Thanks Kathy.

I picked up a quilting book from the very extensive guild library. I can keep this book for the following month and return it at the next meeting. It is a real treat and we can take up to 4 books home for the month.  One of the benefits of a great guild is what it offers the members.

We had two ladies who worked in the library for several years. I found it interesting the each of these  ladies had daughters who bore twins. Unusual isn't it.

Today I read and worked on my laptop, basically doing very little of anything. I wanted to do some of my heart blocks but it slipped my mind.  And tomorrow we have a luncheon date with Bob and Buzz. I am looking forward to that.  When we get home maybe I can sew a bit.

I have the greatest thing on my laptop. It is a word correction programme , it fixes my typing mistakes. I have never been a typist so make mistakes. I am a good speller so it is not spelling mistakes that I make but typing ones. So the programme corrects me. Nice isn't it?  Every little bit helps.

One of my favourite designs , the Dresden Plate, if I get my act together maybe I can make one of these.

The basic pattern of the Dresden Plate.

Lovely quilt for Valentine's Day , hearts all round.

Ha! It speaks for itself, Adorable little pug.

Very attractive nine patch quilt and so easy too. The squares border is quite nice too and adds the finishing touch to the quilt.

I don;t know where this is but after Hurricane Katrina I was in Louisiana and saw a car in a tree in the very large swamp there. It is hard to imagine the power of a hurricane but this picture gives you a small idea.

Time to go folks.   Have a great evening.
                      Good night.

strange things

The Cremation of Sam McGee

BY ROBERT W. SERVICE
There are strange things done in the midnight sun
      By the men who moil for gold;
The Arctic trails have their secret tales
      That would make your blood run cold;
The Northern Lights have seen queer sights,
But the queerest they ever did see
Was that night on the marge of Lake Lebarge
      I cremated Sam McGee.

This poem has a great rythm. That makes it run through your mind and not stop.

But I chose it because of the first line, and it is the reason why I chose that line because Strange things are happening to me.  First is that I have forgotten what it is that is strange. How the memory disappears as you age. Wait for it folks.  Maybe what I wanted to say will be remembered before the blog is written.

Can't get out of these italics. So for tonight we are stuck with it.

Crazy hearts , lots of choice here.  Aha I have discovered what to do.

There is a song called Crazy Hearts written by Hank Williams and sung by him too. It keeps running through my head. This is a lovely quilt.

This morning we went out to Richmond to buy some fabric. Ray wants me to make armchair covers for the new chairs. Plus he wants a head square for the back of the chairs where our heads rest. We went to Fabricana for the fabric.

Quinn with his first coffee LOL  and dad Albert watching him.
Left off here folks.

Have a good evening.

loser/winner

I seem to have lost a blog. Where oh where can it be?  The internet remains a place of mystery.

The Canucks won last night over the Penguins and Sid the Kid, Sidney Crosby. I am of two minds on this one. I love our Canucks but am  fond of Sidney Crosby. So who do I root for? Well this game is over so it doesn't really matter.  In this case I can be happy no matter who has won.

We went to London Drugs today. I bought some make-up, something I have never used in a long life but I have brown spots on my face and hope the make-up will cover them.  Of course the lady who worked the floor assure me that it would. I am not assured!  Also bought some new nail polish. The colours of nail polish are wonderful and always attract me.

My hand is still sore and swollen, now my right ankle is sore too. I haven't looked at it to see if it too has increased in size.I think it must be arthritis of some sort.

Hope of the Heart looks like an easy block to make. I like it.

Download now as a pdf pattern

I hate cooking LOL.   Aunty Acid probably does too.

Sue's Tumbler quilt with various colours of scrappy bits.  Very nice.

Aha Orange is the new black as they say. I would name this quilt orange juicy.  Big blocks make this an interesting quilt. I wonder just how big they are.

I find this one very attractive , the yellow just makes this quilt POP.

My great granddaughter Rose on the road again. Love that scooter. I am happy she has a helmet to protect her head.

Time is up folks. Have a great evening.
                                  Good night.

Saturday

I have a sore hand. My left hand on the left side is quite sore and it is swollen, it hurts to type or use it. However it is probably old age and arthritis. I do not have any real issues with arthritis given my age so I am lucky that way.  It is not the way Ray feels which is much worse than my little pain. He has Rheumatoid Arthritis which is a total body illness.

We are watching the Green River Killer Gary Ridgeway. I remember that case in the 80s after so many bodies had been found in the Green River . Seattle was overcome with the killings and the police had worked hard to find him. The people in the film are all folks who were close to him and to hear them talk about these killings and the watch them cry is very emotional.  He was such an ordinary man that his family was overcome.  Ridgeway confessed and was given a life sentence rather than the death sentence.

I had a call from Adam yesterday, I think he and Lisa are in Atlanta Georgia. Not sure though but it begins with an A. Man I am so bad about these things nowadays. I wonder if It is lack of attention on my part. I know my memory is still good for most things.

We are watching Sid the Kid, Sidney Crosby, play hockey here tonight. Right now the score is 2-0 for us of all things. You would think that Sid's team would be ahead not the Canucks.

My lovely granddaughter Chelsea. I don't know where she is in this photo .

Adam's wife Lisa has a new grandbaby , I don't know its name or sex but I do have a photo.
Isn't this a special photo. What a great big yawn. Congratulations Lisa and Adam and the rest of the family. Who are the parents Lisa?

Now this is bright and beautiful. I love bright colours and this appeals to me greatly.

The Canucks are 4-0 ahead of the Penguins. What a huge surprise. I thought for sure Sidney Crosby would keep them ahead of us.

At nine o'clock we will watch Midsomer Murders. I am happy about that. I like following this series. It appears to me that each episode is a stand alone episode. That is good as I can follow it periodically if necessary.

Barnaby and his sidekick Scott. A good show to watch and we are doing so now.

That is all for tonight folks.
        Have a good evening.
                                                   Good night.

     Good rockin' tonight.
