Football game tonight.

A bit late signing in tonight as we were out and then I forgot to do the blog. I was looking through some quilt magazines and we all know how absorbing that is.  I get kind of lost in the process.
Richard arrived this morning around 11:00 from Calgary. We had a good visit . He is suffering from the fractures that he had in his vertebrae and his leg is losing muscle and often collapses on him. He has an appointment with a neurologist in Calgary when he gets back there. He thinks he will neeed to have the vertebrae fused. He looks so uncomfortable. I pray that the doctors can do something for him.
He was a bit tired from the drive which is about 12 hours though they did stop  in Kamloops last night and did the short drive about 3-4 hours from there. He lay down on the couch and had a nap. I did not sleep well last night so I too had a short nap.  Rick's friend Chris came by to pick him up and they drove out to Horseshoe Bay where Rick's boat is.  They were planning to go to the bar there to watch the football game between Calgary and BC Lions.
We are watching it too. The Lions are winning at the moment, 14 -6 in the second quarter. The centre for the Lions is out of the play at the moment, he has an injury.

This is a pretty design by Janet Wickell of About.com. The title says it is a spring quilt and the colours convey that season but just change the colours and you have whatever season you want. Quilting is good that way LOL.

About.com has so many blocks and quilts that they put up on the site.  Everyday there is something new going on. There are even puzzles and contests. You can take a block challenge that tests your knowledge of the names of quilt blocks. Good stuff.

Jean thanks for the comment. I do have enough points for two turkeys but not enough room in the fridge freezer for even one of them.

My good friend Clairee from Washington state came over  to see us this morning. She and I are old friends from  our school days so you know how long ago that was . It was wonderful to see her. She lost her beloved husband recently and is still very distressed over his death. We talked about what he went through. He had lung cancer and it is such an awful way to go. They tried everything to eliminate it to no avail.

We did talk about the upcoming American election.
We went to the Greek restaurant where we usually go but it was closed and Clairee looked in the window and the place was empty. Another victim of the recession I guess. So we went down the road to the casino where they have a full restaurant service for the hotel but is open to people from the casino. We each had soup ,  a bowl of  chowder for me and it was very good. Clairee had a bowl of mushroom soup which she also enjoyed. I ordered a grilled cheese sandwich and Clairee had a strip steak, I am not quite sure what it was though. She liked her lunch but I did not enjoy my sandwich which had tomato and white cheese of some kind. It wasn't tasty at all.
We did not go into the casino but I blew $20 at the front of it. That was okay.
We came home  and chatted with Ray about the state of the country, the health care systen, the election . No gossip. It was interesting to hear her opinion on things. She is a bright woman so calls them the way she sees them. I like that.

When Clairee left we watched the King's Speech . I had seen itin the movie theatre but it is still such a great movie that I watched it again. I felt so sorry for King George and what he had to overcome. He was a great king during the war and held the British people together along with Queen Elizabeth and the two princesses.  It is a story for the ages.

We had ham for dinner and that was all we wanted to eat. Oh I had one of those little chocolate puddings after a while.

It's a bit late but I hope you did just that. Saucy loooking guy don't you think! Nice PJs.

 

Oh my isn't this something special  little puppies.  Now that's a bundle of cash when they sell them  which they eventually will do. Now where did those two white ones come from?

 

Wanna go for a boat ride guys? It is a perfect place to go out on the water. These black swans are absolutely stunning with that bright red bill.

Oh we had such a good day, by that I mean we both felt great for most of the day. I went to the eye doctor because of the pain in my eyes.  After examining  my eyes he said my problem was dry eyes. And he told me that we all have a gland which lubricates the eye just above the end of the eyebrow. As we get old the gland like everything else in the body dries up. Something to look forward to  . It along with all the other parts of the body which also dry up with age. Is there anything left that is juicy LOL.

Anyway it was another tidbit of information I did not know so I am passing it on to all of you. If you are approaching 80 bear that in mind.:))

We picked up the drugs at Safeway and had a cup of coffee at Starbucks. The lady there always brings my coffee to the table. I guess she thinks it is awkward for me to carry coffee and steer my walker. So nice of her!

Our cleaning lady came at 11:30 and worked until 2:30.

Ray took the car to the car wash, it makes him happy to get his car cleaned. It did need it.

When Lynn left Ray and I went out to buy the turkey  and the potatoes plus a few other things for  Thanksgiving dinner. When we got to the cash register there was good news the turkey was free with 10,000 points which we had. So a free turkey Haha!!

 

Then we decided to go out for dinner to TOPS. Dinner was just great. We went home stuffed to the gills. Good thing we don't do dinner too often, well dinner out that is.

 

I don't usually do politics on my blog but what did you think of the debate last night. Even Bill Maher who contributed one million dollars to Obama's super PAC  said Obama looked like he needed a teleprompter. That's all I'll say about politics.

Nice block, I made it once when I was making hot pads for my pot luck group. I am going to see if I can find it here on my laptop. Wait for it!! Well don't wait too long, I can't find it after a half hour or more of looking. Maybe if I look on the PC after I am done here.

Whoops it's a little early for the dogs isn't it?  But they do make me smile and that's my criteria for choosing a photo.LOL.

We had two appointments with doctors today, first with Dr. Rai my chiropractor and then with our family doctor.

Our family doctor gave us both a clean bill of health, cholesterol, sugar, heart , kidney and liver, all the good things. So we are good  for the next six months.Hurrah!! My own special problems , infections,were not on the table as they are not predictable. But I am very happy about all the other aspects of our health.

I am looking for some free time to sew but if you have been following my blog you know that I have hardly any time for it.

Carol called me from Tom's to say the circular attachment I ordered has come in. Kathy are you going over to Tom's next week?  And if so can I go with you? I would like to go without Ray as he hurries me out of there.

Gas!!! 10 cents increase in the price of gas overnight. Good heavens what are we going to do. Aha! Maybe stay home. LOL.

After the doctor we went to Safeway pharmacy to fill the prescriptions.

Something to look at for gifts. I like the 4 patch coasters and the tater bag looks simple to make . Be sure to get the batting that is for anything that goes into the microwave. I made several of those bags with regular cotton batting before the microwave batting came out in response to the complaint of the bags catching on fire. Mine did that too. I was truly disappointed as well as being aware that they were a danger. Never made any more but I am thinking of doing so again. This time I will make one and test it in my own Microwave oven. The other I made were for guess what .... Gifts LOL.

 I will probably be brief tonight. If that is possible for me.
We went to lunch with Bob and Buzz, We spent the better part of two hours  eating and chatting. What did we talk about, haha, can't recall What we talked about. You know how it is, everything. We have been friends for a long time so know all about each other Well almost all!
. They are such good , good friends.  Bob said he would take Ray back and forth from the hospital when  he gets his back done. That is a big relief for me.
Marg came over when we got home and she had two more books with her. We had gone to the library today to return some books and pick up more, so now I have 7 books to read .LOL. That should keep me busy  for a while.
I also picked up the latest Giller prize book which is a fast read , only out 7 days, it is The Headmaster's Wager by Vincent Lam. It was mentioned in the paper on the weekend. It looks most interesting and takes place in Saigon. It sure sounds like a good one. I have to start it right away so I can read it this week.
We are watching Vegas tonight, it is in the early days of Vegas and the mob rules the day. There is a lot of gratuitous violence , rather what you would expect.
I got the call today that Tom had the circular attachement for my Janome  that I ordered so we'll have to go over there soon. I was hoping when I saw his name come up on my phone that the part was in for my embroidery machine but alas that was not to be. Writing letters does not seem to help so maybe a phone call may. I'll try for their number and call them.

Now this is a close family. The baby  Emperor penguins are so cute. The Emperor penguins are the largest of  all the penguins . They stand about 36 inches tall or... 3 feet LOL. The father's help with the incubating of the egg, only one egg, while the mother goes to the sea to fill up on krill and other creatures such as squid. Then she goes back to where her mate and egg are and takes over the job. They go back and forth until the egg hatches and then they go back and forth to keep the chick fed. It is an interesting creature and worth reading up on.

 

Three wise  old owls sat in a tree, the more he sat the more he saw, the more he saw the more he sat, Oh my it could go on forever. They sleep during the day and hunt at night. This must be bird night for me.

Pickles? they turned up today and I just had to put them on my blog because they are beautiful. Some people are just too clever!

Bossy cat but aren't they all?

The start of a new sampler.  It is a nice block but I can't find the instructions. So here is what I see . All the sections of the block are half square triangles. If you make each piece  2 1/2  inches , 2 inches when sewn together you'll have an 8 inch block.  Here is the block.

If anyone can find the instructions let me know. Ah click on the word here which is in blue.

Seasonal pumpkin just in time for Halloween. time to make it I mean. I hope you enjoy this one. You could also make it into a Jack O'Lantern by adding eys and  mouth as  applique.

 

Ray and I did nothing today. I did a lot of sleeping for some reason.

Could that be "tired"  LOL.

So I have very little to report tonight. We were going to visit Washington state today but neither of us had the energy to get to the car. Haha. But tomorrow should be a better and we have lunch with Bob and Buzz as an incentive. We need something to give us a push.

I know it is Tuesday and my sewing day but both my driver friends are unavailable.

Richard called from Calgary this afternoon. He started his new job which is actually his old job on a new contract. He also found a new doctor and has an appointment with a specialist for his bainful back very soon. I did not take the call as I was "sleeping" but I am happy for him on all counts.

Haha maybe if you lived with me LOL. but Margaret would love to have you , you cheeky thing!

I'm kind of in cat mode tonight. This cat makes me think of Jim when he was young. He was fascinated with my knitting. I happened to be working on a complicated lace sweater pattern. I came in and found my knitting all snarled , off the needles and a complete mess. I was distraught because there was no way to fix it. All I could do was take it all down and roll the wool into a ball.  I never started that one again, it took far too much concentration to do the pattern. And who knows what might have happened to it another time . LOL.

 

Rose in a creeper race. apparently shw was so busy looking at all the other little creepers she forgot to start. That is Rose on the right at the back LOL. The mothers were enticing them with cell phones . I should think something to eat wouls be a better enticement. Smarties for instance LOL.

 

More Autumn beauty and for sure that will not be the last picture show. :))

I just love these two little kittens doing their stretches. Just natural for them to do yoga.

I think maybe that is why cats are so relaxed. Or maybe it is because they have attitude. They are the boss!!

Some red and white blocks and one a very interesting one at that. Have a look. My granddaughter Kate in Toronto received the quilt I sent toher. She has always loved it and I don't so it went to her. She is happy about it LOL. And so am I !

There it is the pattern is Turning Twenty and the fabrics are fruit and vegetables. I thought it would be a fun quilt but ended up not liking it but my granddaughters like it and Kate got it.
