block again

Download now as a pdf pattern

Free Trade block, funny name for a quilt block but then the blocks always represent something so why not free trade. Once again from About.com     Pretty colours this time. Of course a two colour block is easy to change if you don't like the  chosen ones. Have fun!!

Some good stuff to look at if you have a mind for viewing good stuff.  LOL

A nice tutorial on how to  make this quilt. You need to scroll down a bit to get to it.

While I was in hospital and even this year I received  several white orchids . In time the flowers all fell off and there were only sticks left with big leaves at the bottom of the plant where it came out of the pot. The roots were very active and kept growing . Finally this month we noted buds on one of the orchids. The buds became more and more swollen until they burst out of the pod. Now we have more beautiful orchid flowers.
One side of the orchid , here is the next side.
Lovely aren't they?

We decided to stay at home today as both of us felt a bit tired for some reason. Well I am thinking at the end of the day that we should really just go out. I worked all day. First I knitted another dishcloth, started another one and sewed in the ends of two more while watching Perry Mason, All the old black and white ones are on in the morning.
I'll add these to my pile.
After these were finished I decided to tackle my sewing after a long rest from quilting. I managed to sew five rows together . Since I pin everything and still get seams wrong it takes a lot of time to get anywhere. However it is taking shape. I want to make 4 more rows , that will make a large quilt, but if it takes me too long and I get fed up I may take it down and make a smaller one. I am thinking of that.
That took me up to 4:00 PM , so I rested for a bit. Then I put something to eat together. It was a crackers with butter, two kinds of cheese, large olives and pickled onions on a plate. Well where else would that kind of food go. We sat, watched the news and ate from the plate, drank a bottle of water and deemed ourselves satisfied.
During the afternoon we watched a B andW movie of  Madame Bovary

the story written by Gustave Flaubert who was sued by the government for corrupting public morals and  was eventually acquitted. Madam Bovary was his first novel and he made just a pittance from it about 500 francs. It has gone on to become one of the world's most famous novels. It is a great story about a young woman who married and then went on to have a series of lovers, spent heavily on whatever she wanted and ruined her husband both emotionally and financially.
Gustav Flaubert
I love these old movies, as Turner Classic says , the producers of these old movies had to relie on great stories because they had none of the modern pyrotechnics that are available today to catch the eye of the viewing public.
